time for another book review, this time some fiction. actually i've read a lot of books since the last one but not a lot that i've REALLY loved. most books are good but not super good - terilyn probably knows what i mean. so teri, try these if you're looking for a worthwhile read: "flight to eden" and "quest for atlan" by douglas hirt.
lately i've really enjoyed books that retell biblical stories as fictional accounts and these two are part of a trilogy (cradleland chronicles) telling the story of noah. the first one starts with noah's parents before his birth, lots of dinosaur-like creatures, sword-fighting, nephilim, and spiritual warfare type stuff. very interesting. also eve, as in adam and eve, is still alive in it, although over 1000 years old. the second one continues the story as noah begins to grow up. i'm very interested to see how it will all end - i mean, i know the ending of the story, but i'm interested to see how the author will bring it about (the third book isn't out yet but it will be called "fall of the nephilim").
i enjoy this type of book because it always gives me new and different perspectives on biblical stories and people. the thing that struck me the most in the first book was the incredible faith that was portrayed by noah's parents and others who worshipped the creator. everything works for the good of those who love him...i often, usually, don't have that kind of faith but i would like to. now i'm halfway through the second one and also really enjoying it.
if you're interested, some other books i've really liked that retell biblical stories include: "the shadow women" by angela hunt (story of moses), "hadassah" by tommy tenney (esther), "lineage of grace" by francine rivers (tamar, rahab, ruth, bathshebah, mary), genesis trilogy including "heavens before", "he who lifts the skies", and "crown of stars" by kacy barnett-gramckow (noah's ark and tower of babel), "bad girls of the bible" and "really bad girls of the bible" by liz curtis higgs (bunch of bad bible girls), and the three books "thorn in my heart", "fair is the rose", and "whence came a prince" also by liz curtis higgs (jacob, rachel, and leah). sooo good. haha i'm such a nerd :)

dana, i've really wanted to read those angela hunt books - i love her writing - but they're older and we don't carry them at the store. are they at the library? and i've never read sarah either.

Hey Karina! I was going to recommend a couple of books to you... but I see that "Sarah" by Marek Halter has already been recommeded. I have read another one by him I think it's "Esther"... or one of those awesome women in the Bible. Anyway. I am excited to pick this book up for Jon... just in time for his Christmas Holiday's. If I remember correctly you two seemed to enjoy the same authors. Anyhoo... thanks!
